Let there be paint!

Welcome back to the house! We have been very busy over here at the "recycle-dome" this past month (Paul has re-named our house the recycle-dome due to the fact that almost all building materials have been donated or recycled from the original structure). The mad dash to move in at the beginning of July is on and I looks like we will meet this deadline albeit there will probably be little to no floor coverings or counter-tops, but minor details in the scheme of things. Because so much has been done I thought it would be fun to take you on a pictoral tour of the house: Enter here at the newly installed gate by Matt and walk down the lovely shadded walkway to our front porch.

Notice the lovely red door as you step through, it still needs one more coat of paint but I just don't have it in me to pull out the red paint can again so it will just have to wait. I would like to point out as you close the door behind you the wonderful job Sally did on the trim work around the door and windows. The living room/dining room is all painted this yellow color...I believe that it is called cornsilk or something to that effect and the wainscotting is call New Canvas it is an off white.

The new living room windows are installed and Sally has been working to finish trimming them, there is still more trim work to go up on the rest of the wainscotting and a final paint touch-up but other than that this room is ready for our bamboo flooring.
Walking through the living room we run into the sunroom. Did you notice that there still are no windows in? Yeah....so did I! And the window saga continues...apparently after mis-measuring the original windows they forgot to order the correct window measurements TWICE! It takes about two weeks to get a window in so it has been over a month of waiting for these windows. Grrrrr. But we were assured (not that I trust them anymore) that the windows will be in this Tuesday so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Although the big windows are not in, we have installed the smaller windows and the door to the back deck is finally installed with a working lock...we had a lock mechanism malfunction not too long ago. The color you see on the walls here is called Baby Bonnet Blue. It is a pretty intense color and the camera does it no justice but you will just have to come on over and experience the magic for yourselves.

As you walk out the door onto the back deck you can see all the work that has been accomplished here. You can see how the final deck will look once we have replaced some of the old siding and re-painted. but there is the new window where a door used to be and Sally was able to salvage on of the mis-measured windows to replace the old bathroom window. If you scroll down to previous posts you will be able to see the difference. I also worked out in the yard one day to rip out all the dead vines that were on the trellis. Someday there will be an arbor there but I am getting ahead of myself.

Walking across the deck you can enter the master bedroom which has been newly whitewashed (not an incredibly fun job) and painted. The paint is called White fog and is a light grey with a hint of blue. I am going for the beach house whitewashed look in there ergo the lamp has got to go...but all in good time...all in good time....

As you walk out the master bedroom into the hallway you can go up the stairs into the loft. This has also been whitewashed and I am still in the process of painting it Baked Brie. I was hoping that Baked Brie would have been a more earthy, browny white but alas it is just another shade of white so I must accesorize to make this space interesting. Matt has a giant world map it is about 5x8 feet I would say, that I am going to frame and put up on one of the walls in the loft. That is about as far as I have gone in the decorating department here. I still haven't decided what I want to do with the rails, I didn't want to paint them white because they will be man-handled a lot and eventually get grungy so if anyone out there in cyberland can give me some ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Down from the loft is the den/laundry room. This too will be painted Baked Brie. You will also notice the huge hole that we cut into the side of the kitched to open up into the den. This is our new breakfast bar! I am completely in love with the opening and it really opens up the kitchen to the rest of the house.

As you can see in this picture we (we is short for Paul) are installing the cabinets in my Margarita colored kitchen. The cabinets are maple stock cabinets from Home Depot and look perfect with the green color in the kitchen. I am really excited to see the finished project but these things take time I guess...

From the kitchen we walk into the dining room. This area still needs a little work. You can see Sally working on the windows that look out onto the porch, and we still need to frame in the back wall. The white cabinets will be installed into the wall and are going to be for table linens and we are going to build a bookshelf above it for all my cookbooks and knick-knacks. Next to the bookshelf will be a closet but the door is going to be on the other side so that we are not opening out into the dining table. This area is still a mess because we are using it as the kitchen cabinet install staging area but soon it will all be beautiful.

From the dining room you can see my lavendar colored bathroom. I love the color...I hate the sink, I have my eye on a vanity at Ikea, but I am going to have a save up some extra cash if I want to get it...all in good time...all in good time I have to keep telling myself. What you can't see in this picture is that the tub/shower has no tile...I think that should be my first priority over a new vanity.
Last stop on our tour is the guest bedroom. This room I still have no idea how I want to decorate this, so I just painted it with a leftover paint from another project and I will re-visit it when I have some inspiration. This room has drastically improved from it's humble beginings though so I thought I would show a before and after

Surprisingly these are the same exact views. We got rid of the old rotting door and installed this 4 foot window instead, took down the wood panelling on the ceiling and put sheetrock up all over, painted and voila! Clean "new" room!

I hope you enjoyed the tour of our house feel free to shoot some hoops out back before you leave, Matt installed a new hoop and backboard for your sporting enjoyment.

Thanks for stopping by!
